It must be September,
July sun has disappeared
―
This was certainly true this month… one of the most significant things I noted this month… darker morning and evening walks with Sherman. In the morning we are waiting for the sunrise and though it seems lighter at night, it is just because we are out as the sun is setting…and soon that will be dark as well!
I was fortunate to catch a few migrating travelers at my bird feeders this month. Yes, two different warblers stopped for a snack… a Bay-breasted Warbler and a Cape May Warbler. It was delightful to see them briefly on their long journey!
I took a bit of advice from Kym and went out into my garden with my journal and a pencil…and I wrote down lots of notes! I also did a bit of prep-work for the onslaught of spring bulbs that are on their way (The Slow Boat from Amsterdam!) Of course, they are slated to come when we will be in Erie, but Steve’s mom is our Mail Watcher when we are gone (I think she is the original Nebby Neighbor, but in this case it is useful, LOL!)
I am surprised that my tomatoes have continued to produce all month (despite the cold snap we had!) but this weekend I will harvest what is left (fried green tomatoes anyone?) and pull the plants next week. My pots are looking mighty sad these days… that cold snap did them no favors! I will clean the lot of them, which will be sad… but I won’t have to come home from Erie with that to do AND plant that plethora of bulbs heading my way!
There was less porch time this month… but what days I could, I was out on the porch! And that will be my plan next month as well!
I have just today and tomorrow to go in Squat-tember! And while I did not achieve a perfect completion (I missed a few days) over all, it was a success! I found Petra to be a great motivator! I am going to continue squatting (and doing more floor sitting!)
And there you have my month… it was good but went by way too fast!
Have a great weekend everyone and I will see you all back here on Monday!

Pretty sunset picture! I ended up bailing on Squatember…but I plan to do some stuff on my own (once work eases up in a month or so). We had delicious (though not as flavorful as mid-summer) green beans from the garden last night and we are still picking sungold cherry tomatoes (25-50 a day!!) and as a bonus, Fletch brought in a red pepper yesterday. I’m thinking fried green tomatoes may be on our menu one day soon as well! Happy weekend Kat – enjoy!
Migrators…the anticipation of bulbs…and Erie…what a fabulous way to say so long to September!
This all sounds wonderful with the possible exception of planting all those bulbs when you get back, but Squat-tember may have been helpful for that. My roommate in college was from Pittsburgh and I haven’t heard nebby in years. (Do you also ret up your room?) happy weekend, Kat!
Our daily walks are a little later as well and it’s nice to be cold! We haven’t been sitting on the back patio and the awning guy will be here in mid October to take it down for the season.
The birds you saw are beautiful. I HEAR more varieties of birds than I see. They are well hidden in the green-belt that backs up to my yard.
Lots for you to look forward too in the coming month, from trips to bulbs.I am still picking courgettes from my single plant..can’t quite believe it. But yes the days are drawing in and the curtains are closed earlier and earlier. Hoping for a mild winter this year, but who can tell.
I am so impressed with your Squat-tember success, Kat! You GO!!! I’m so glad you’ve got spring bulbs on the way! (I have such a love-hate relationship with bulbs. I absolutely can’t resist them – and I love them in the spring, but I really hate planting them in the fall.) It feels so dark these days . . . but still just lovely weather (for the most part). XO
The bulbs on their way will be quite welcome as they bloom into Spring. I pulled tomato plants a few weeks ago. Wilt got to the vines and they were finished producing. You captured a beautiful sunset even though it comes earlier these days.
