An eclipse is one phenomenon that is actually more impressive from the ground. — Leroy Chiao
There has been so much Eclipse Hype on everything… the local news especially, here in the South Hills of Pittsburgh but I am not sure they counted for grey, cloudy skies… very cloudy skies and rain!
But today, as we creep up to the eclipse, I will be making Mourning Dove silhouette’s to sit on the lines from my backyard. These doves will grace the seventeenth page giving a bit of me to my daughter’s book. I love the doves that sit on those lines morning and evening… they are a constant in my day with their meditative calls and gentle nature. They bring calm to my day… for it is impossible to be angry or stressed with these sweet birds.

Ready for the birds!
I have some bits of fabric that I will use to create the doves from to “perch” on my stitched lines. I don’t know how many I will be able to do in my timeframe… but maybe I can get 6 or 8 of them cut out in 15 minutes today! (And no, I am not counting the drawing time in the equation!!) But this will be a very peaceful way to begin my week! Even a rainy, cloudy, likely to ruin an eclipse kind of day! But I am not going to worry about a potentially obscured eclipse, instead I will keep myself grounded in this Monday… with Mourning Doves and slow stitching!
Happy Monday everyone!
I will casually look out my window at the grass, then watch the news tonight for further coverage. So far it looks like a cloudy day all day but never say never. I am hoping to cast on something new 🙂
That is a good way to look (or actually NOT look) at it. I look forward to seeing the doves.
I love your plans for mourning dove stitching! I rarely see them perched on anything here but they are often under the feeder with their calming presence.
I’m surprised that we have clear skies here so far; they were calling for lots of cloud cover, but we’re only 90% totality at best. I will see what I see this afternoon!
We see a lot of doves on power lines in my neighborhood, too, and I always wonder what they’re chatting about with each other. I am keeping my fingers crossed that the clouds clear out by later this afternoon!
I am looking forward to your finished doves. May they be as restful as those in real life.
I know that playing with my paper bird silhouettes was meditative and joyful…so I can imagine cutting and stitching will be, multifold!
Our clouds cleared JUST long enough today at JUST the right time! What luck. I hope yours did, too.
I too like the idea of doves on a line. Their call is the sound of home. How fun that you are stitching them for your project. We had sunshine and a partial eclipse but no glasses (procrastination didn’t pay off) so watched the light change and the event with NASA commentary.
I’m sorry it rained on your eclipse experience! I think birds on the line sound adorable.
