June is the time for being in the world in new ways, for throwing off the cold and dark spots of life.
– Joan D. Chittister
This week, this quote is going to be my guiding light… I am throwing off all the dark spots of life (news media and politics, I am looking at you!)
My new morning beginning with coffee and my “abbreviated” desk on the porch are going marvelously! I am sitting outside longer… and that is NOT a bad thing. My mornings last week were full of the raucous calls of Pileated Woodpeckers… a morning Pileated serenade is a treat and I would have missed it if I was indoors focused on other things!
I also am savoring the delight of my daughter when she received her “book”… there were so many happy tears for both of us. I also got some text messages from her siblings… I think there are more books in my future… at least 2 more. (This is really an awesome problem to have!)
This is the last full week of Spring, so if there was something on your Spring To-Do List… you still have time!
Happy Monday everyone… I hope you are all able to slow down and savor these days!
See you all back here on Wednesday for some Unraveling!
I’m glad that your outside time is providing a nice start to your day. I’m with you on throwing off the dark spots of the news media and politics. The less I scroll, the better my life is. I’m also glad to hear that your other kids have spoken up; I wondered if you were going to be making books for them and I’m happy to hear this will be happening!
Oh, gosh! I hadn’t thought of that! Of course — stitchbooks all around! Yay 🙂
Thank you for the reminder of the last full week…I DO have a few things to get to.
I love hearing about your mornings on the porch. It’s a chilly one here, but I kept the back door open anyway. (So I got to hear ‘the fight on the street.’ Really, the jays and the crows going at it out back. I think it was a draw.)
It seems like many of us are looking for “slower” ways to spend our days. I am all in on that in my mind. Putting it to action has been a little more difficult.
I am so glad (though not at all surprised) to hear that the stitched book was so well received! I hope you enjoyed your slow morning today — it was so lovely this morning!
It’s really nice to picture you savoring your mornings outside, drinking coffee and journaling, with the birds calling to you. I feel peaceful and I’m not even there!
How wonderful that your daughter appreciates and will enjoy her stitched book. It is such a sweet gift. I’ve seen a pileated woodpecker only once so I’m envious of your ringside seat. I really have to ration my exposure to the news these days. This June outdoor weather is the perfect antidote. Somehow the natural world goes on in spite of all the insanity.
That quote is perfect for this time of year – thank you! And those pileated woodpeckers are the best – we love listening to them in the woods behind our house and they are the first birds my children learned to identify by sound. So glad you’re able to enjoy them as well!
My dream is to have a little patio set up in our backyard for me to do the same — it’s the perfect location to watch the sunrise and wildlife. One day!
What a perfect way to begin your days, Kat! I’m so glad you’ve found this new way of working! And, YES! Stitch books all around! XO
We have plenty of pileated woodpeckers at our suet feeder — including a fledgling — but I have never heard their song. Or maybe I have but couldn’t identify it.
