Is in need of a great big diversion!
We can just let July be July, let the sun hang in the sky, clear your mind of all the things you’re waiting on.” — Lily Williams
I stumbled upon this quote yesterday and that led me to this… feels like the perfect July mantra…. later on!
I don’t know about you, but all this heat has me seeking diversions… wherever I can find them! I am hibernating indoors, thankful for working AC. When I drag myself outside to walk in our neighborhood and I am surrounded by a sea of brown grass and the trees and leafy bushes all have wilting leaves. The diversion of rain would be welcome… hugely welcome!
This morning I will divert my attention from the heat by scrubbing (the very sticky) kitchen floors… not the best diversion I can think of but once finished I will reward myself with a glass of iced tea and the finish of The Ministry of Time… I have a little less than half to go (and I have thoughts… so many thoughts!) September’s book discussion seems a long way off… so I am taking a few notes to help me remember!
Some quick painting studies are also a great diversion! I am contemplating trying a “big” lighthouse. (For those of you who have been to Presque Isle, you will recognize the North Pier Lighthouse) It is one of my favorite places to go when visiting Erie. There is always a breeze and sometimes it is extra breezy… which would be perfect for these hot days of summer! Drawing/painting has been a bit of a Calgon Moment for me… when I am feeling overwhelmed, over-heated, over-everything… I escape with a brush and add a few “washes.” I have imagined a more broody sky… inner me really wants some rain!
The weather app teases me with notifications of nearby lightning strikes… come on RAIN!
But for now… let’s get Monday started! See you all back here on Wednesday!
I hear you on this weather!! We did get a needed shower yesterday afternoon (not enough rain, but the temp cooled down to 80!). I know that lighthouse! Such a lovely place to visit. Hard to believe we are halfway through July!!
I am also reluctant to go outside, but I’m trying not to complain. Justin works outside in the heat all day and we have some painters coming today to do some high up painting that John wasn’t comfortable with. We’ve had several sprinkles but no extended rain; I hope we both get some soon. Enjoy having a clean kitchen floor, and I’m glad you think MoT will be discussable. That is a lovely painting!
Oh how I wish for rain!! My weekend was busy and then completely restful – a perfect combination. I am so glad I have AC and I can hide. Lovely watercolor!!
I am so over this heat and humidity. It really wreaks havoc with my arthritis. AND, we could really use more rain. We had a little bit, but not nearly enough.
I love your lighthouse. Maybe that will summon some rain for you.
This heat and humidity is so draining! It is supposed to break for us in east-central Illinois after tomorrow, so hopefully better weather will head your way soon! Your lighthouse painting brings back childhood memories of when we would visit relatives in Erie and spend our days at Presque Isle!
We’re supposed to get some relief from this high humidity by the end of the week (just in time for camping) and I can’t wait! I am trying to not complain, though, since I really hate the cold.
We had some rain here overnight and supposedly there’s a chance of a thunderstorm later today — I hope it happens! Not only do we need the rain badly, but somehow a good storm makes the heat a little more bearable. In the meantime, I’m staying in the AC as much as I can and drinking a lot of extra water. I’m glad I don’t have to work outside!
Let’s let July just be July. While this weekend’s high heat and events combined to make quite the weekend, I still do want to have more of summer. I look forward to seeing more of your painting. It’s always lovely.
