With all the chaos of the world right now, it feels like poetry is the only calm of my day. I have been circling back to familiar, comforting words from much loved poets.
Today, I thought you might like the same comfort from familiar words so today I am sharing Wendell Berry’s The Peace of Wild Things.
The Peace of Wild Things
by Wendell Berry
When despair for the world grows in me
and I wake in the night at the least sound
in fear of what my life and my children’s lives may be,
I go and lie down where the wood drake
rests in his beauty on the water, and the great heron feeds.
I come into the peace of wild things
who do not tax their lives with forethought
of grief. I come into the presence of still water.
And I feel above me the day-blind stars
waiting with their light. For a time
I rest in the grace of the world, and am free.

A huge thanks to Bonny for gathering up some poetry today in a week where extra poems are much needed.
See you all back here on Monday.
Always a favorite. XO
Poetry is such a comfort . . . anytime, but especially when the world feels too much.
Beautiful!
No matter how many times I read this poem, Berry’s words never fail to calm and provide a welcome and necessary message. It’s perfect for these times and I thank you for sharing.
A favorite poem, for sure. Thank you for this early morning inspiration.
No matter how many times I read this poem, it’ll still be a comfort.
Beautiful poem. 🙂
Gorgeous! Not a poet or poem with whom I’m familiar
One of my most favorite poems and always a balm to my soul, this is perfect for right now.
nature heals. I love this poem with all the chaos I’m ignoring in the news.
Poetry is a comfort. I’m reading two or three poems from an anthology before I pick up the current book in progress at the end of the day. Poems about the natural world are a balm.
