Greetings Dear Unravelers!
I have one burning question today… how on earth are we already a week into August?!
I have been working on a new rhythm to my days and I am struggling quite a bit because Sherman was deeply woven into the fabric of my days. But right now, the most difficult part of my day are mornings. My routine very much centered on Sherman so I am trying new things and being tender with myself as I flounder through the changes. I know that a figuring out a new rhythm takes time.
I have been knitting… thank heavens for the Olympics! I have the first August Sock done! I will start its mate this afternoon!
My July stitching really helped me cement a “new” way of stitching for me. I am spending less time thinking about what to stitch… but instead, I am stitching the same stitches each day… I simply change the color I am stitching with. I love how this looks and am eager to continue on this path… so, as you can see above, my August stitching will focus on “stitch soldiers” … a simple straight line within a couched border. I am really glad I did NOT get May started before I figured this out… pluses and triangles, FTW!
Now on to the sweater… sigh. I did finish the left front but I have yet to give it a good soak and blocking… why? Well, we have like 9000% humidity and I am not certain when it would dry! Instead, I carefully (read loosely…lol) did a 3-needle bind off of the left shoulder and then I began the process of picking up stitches for the sleeve… and my stitch count did not work out for the patterning. So I ripped out the 6 rows I did and have yet to sit back down and try again. I really should wind the last hank of yarn I have, so I can blend that skein in over both sleeves. Fortunately, winding yarn is an excellent task for watching the Olympics!
The reading has, thankfully, picked up a bit… which is a good thing! I had three finishes… the best of the three is Liz Moore’s latest, The God of the Woods. It was brilliant and full of layers. If you are looking for something to read… look no further! I highly recommend it! My current listen is not at all in that category… I am listening to Cat Bohannon’s Eve… with very mixed thoughts. It started out quite fascinating… but then quickly jumped off the fascinating to the absurd? Unbelievable? Speculation? I don’t know… but I am about a hours in and not sure I will finish it… but I will try giving it another hour or so of listening to see if it gets back to the fascinating part.
There you have my week! What about you? What are you excited about right now?
As always, if you wrote a post to share please leave your link below and thank you!
lol That seems to be the question of the week worldwide Kat. It’s scary how quickly this year is passing by.
Many of us have memories of that the hole in your heart feeling and being at a loss knowing how to activate new routines.
And your August stitchery has the look of a straight sided spiders web…..pick a line, any line, all lines lead back to the middle (where your heart is)
I hope you find a new morning rhythm that brings joy. I am almost done with the first sock (yay) they will not be matchy matchy (boo). I love the July stitching immensely!!
You have the most creative stitching thoughts, Kat, and I love how the months look. Your sock and sweater are gorgeous. The humidity is so high I have a couple of tiny mushrooms growing in some of my house plants indoors. I hope you can soak (and dry) your sweater someday!
Love your sock, your July stitching and, as Cathy mentioned, your August stitching is like spider webs. Now, we all know I am not fond of spiders…at all…but I do love the webs that they weave…so beautiful and artistic. I’m glad you liked The God of the Woods. I enjoyed it quite a bit (though I thought it got a little draggy at the end). Here’s hoping a new rhythm will present itself to you soon. And here’s hoping that our stinking humidity will ease up!
What a great plan for your stitching — it really makes it an easy but mindful act! The humidity is no joke right now, and even with air conditioning, it takes a while for things to dry. I hope you can get your sleeve back on track.
I think taking the time – and being gentle with yourself while you do – is the key to discovering your new morning routine, Kat. Hang in there. XO Love your sweater — and it will be worth the sleeve-related hassles in the end. The sock, though! Oh my goodness — it reminds me of a sock-monkey for some reason. (And I love sock monkeys.) As always, LOVE the stitching. It’s truly inspired! XO
Hoping you eventually find a nice new rhythm to your days, Kat. xoxo
I can only imagine how different your mornings are now and I don’t like to think of your days starting off with that sadness. I hope time will make it easier. And knitting and reading and stitching, too.
High humidity on hot days is THE worst. I hope you find a new path in the morning. Letting grief and adjustment take the time it needs to take is the best way through. I do find the hand stitching is the most soothing activity. Something about pulling a needle and thread through a piece of cloth. I’m so anxious to see that sweater. The fabric is beautiful and the color just shines.
Glad you are finding a way to move forward with crafting. Much to my surprise I am also watching the Olympics, although many of the sports seem a bit bizarre.! Also to my surprise I have been sewing!
Late summer feels like a hard time to find rhythm, period—so factoring in a heartbreaking void, well, challenging in spades. That stitching looks cathartic—and stunning. (Your stitching always makes me swoon.)
