September is the other January. — Gretchen Rubin
Hello Sweet September! You are one of my favorite months and have been for as long as I can remember! I love every thing you bring from the return “normal” schedules to the changes that happen with the weather!
So what do I mean by normal? Well, the kids are back at school and I do love watching the neighborhood kids head to the bus stop in the mornings and head home in the late afternoons. There is delight in sitting on my porch in the morning and I confess to eavesdropping on conversations as they wait for the bus. “Kid Banter” about sports… hockey and soccer are big in my neighborhood but sometimes there is a bit of “Dad Advice” to the waiting charges. Dad Advice can be really quite eye-opening… the “make sure you pay attention and listen” talk from last week will be most memorable because I think the squirrel and birds were the only ones listening!
I have noted the shortening of days as August raced through, a shortening that becomes more pronounced in September. I gave in last night and turned on lights in the living room after dinner… sigh. I have softened the blow of the waning light by turning on the fairy lights on the mantel and in the Gnome Hutch but yesterday’s clouds required a bit more light. I am not complaining though because those clouds brought some much needed rain!
September mornings have the most glorious light… it just glows and I am going to savor every morning I can on my porch! Yes, I am not giving up my “outside office” yet… after all, I have an abundance of sweaters to pull on to ward off the morning chill.
I have only one thing on my “list” this month… to make every effort to get that blasted sweater done! (Stay tuned for an update on my woes on Wednesday.) Sometimes sweater knitting is not for the faint of heart… sigh.
Welcome September! I hope you are bringing all the sweater knitting juju my way!
What about you? What are your plans for September?

My plans for September are to cook some good things for dinner and do some of the things I’ve been putting off. These include cleaning and sitting at the shredder for hours to clean out the file cabinet. Also, try not to obsess over the election!
I was cold on my walk and enjoyed the chill!! I hope we are done with the heat waves. Give me some fall weather please.
My plans for September are to spend more time outdoors now that the weather is milder (I needed a jacket on my walk this morning!), to finish some stitching and knitting projects that have been sitting around for a couple of months, do some fall cleaning, and try to keep my self distracted from stress related to the election!
I agree with you about the light in September. It is unmatched! I hope you enjoy every single September morning!
I think September has always been my favorite month. Well…my birthday month! Also Fletcher’s birthday month. No real plans per se, but do some stuff (kitchen curtains washed and will be hung on the line to dry today)…do some knitting and stitching and reading. Hang with C&M, maybe go out to eat. Another trip to the CSA next Saturday. Hoping to get some walks in. Hopefully enjoy some Fall-like weather!
I have always loved September because of its combination of typically beautiful weather, new school supplies, and all the excitement that comes with the start of a new academic year (even though it’s been a long time since I was last a student). Usually the High Holy Days are in September, though they’re late this year, but it always seemed appropriate to mark the start of the new year in September to me.
I hope you enjoyed the crisp weather this morning and were refreshed in your time on the porch! And I hope the sweater is behaving itself!
September for ‘us’ is slightly different. It’s a beginning (being Spring) so is nearly the opposite of yours – lengthening days, warmer weather, hopes for spending more time outside. I’m definitely looking forward to all of those
It’s also the beginning of the fourth school term with the run up to end of year exams – so not too much fun and games to start off with – it’s the pointy end (do or die time in their minds) for many of the older students.
Hopefully your Autumn ends up being all you want it to be
The light & the cooler mornings are so welcome right now!!
