Greetings Gentle Unravelers on this most somber of Wednesday’s
I am sure, like me, you all remember exactly where you were at 8:14AM EDT in 2001. Today, especially, I think of the 2,977 souls that were lost. A good day to sit in quiet meditation and catch up my stitching… I am a couple days behind this month.
There has been the tiniest bit of knitting this week… some rows added to my Color Marled shawl and I have joined a new color to the mix!
I also have knit some rounds on what I think might be a hat for a gnome… Yowza… it appears it’s going to be a mighty big hat! This is some slow knitting… there is a row guide leading me on and, as you can see, I have LOTS of boxes to tick off yet!
And that is the sum total of all my knitting this week.
Most of the time I fiddled with Gnatty! On his most recent walk, a grey-winged blue gnatty catcher stopped to say hello! And he discovered an oak tree that produces knitted acorns but he is keeping the location a secret! No pattern for the bird, just a few tiny scraps and some stuffing to fill him out… and those finishing touches of some wings, a tail, and a stitched beak!
This week has found me immersed in the world of Adam Bede. Oof… it has had its hard moments, but Eliot’s writing is just magnificent. Really… does anyone do conversations better than her? I think not. I finished it yesterday but I have not given it any rating yet. Everything is still swirling about my head… but I know this, I loved it…perhaps not quite as much as The Mill on the Floss, but close!
Up next, Rosamunde Pilcher’s September… and I am excited to settle in with it!
Ant that is all I have for today. I hope you are feeling more productive than I have felt recently!
As always, if you wrote a post to share please leave your link below and thank you!
Good Morning Kat! I’m in a bit of a daze after staying up last night for the debate (which was just about as I expected – Harris remaining calm and well spoken and the idiot just looking and sounding crazier than ever).
I love your little gnatty catcher (we’ve been watching a gnat catcher in our yard the past week or so), and your shawl/scarf is coming along so nicely. I love your stitching too and I will say (loving them) there is nothing wrong with olives!! But I do think your little shapes are flower-like and colorful.
This morning’s clear blue sky makes it easy to recall memories of that awful day. But Gnatty and his accoutrements look wonderful! That hat is quite colorful; is it for Gnatty or another gnome? I do like his current hat with a jaunty feather. I see anemones in your stitching and hope you have some peaceful quiet for more stitching.
Okay, Kat. THAT BIRD! How sweet and charming is that????? I really love your stitching, too . . . olives, flowers, whatever. It’s the colors that capture my heart . . . And, yes. Today is a day for remembering.
the hat does feel endless, but it’s also so much fun seeing the stipes emerge and get thicker as the rows get shorter.
I have learned that I need to wait to see how the mystery gnomes turn out before I decide whether or not to buy the pattern, but I am liking where this one is going! I think your yarn is perfectly suited for this hat, too.
I am sure that I will pause many times today to think of this day 23 years ago.
FWIW, I saw flowers — and didn’t think of olives ’til you said it (but that made me laugh!). Just loving all your knits and stitches this morning, the whimsy and colors, the bird, of course. And the two words ‘knitted acorns.’ (I want to go on THAT walk!)
I’m hoping to finish Ministry of Time by the discussion day–and squeeze in R.P.’s September while it’s STILL September!
And remembering. I’ve been having some interesting conversations with Lincoln, born in ’07. Strange that it’s ‘historical’ for him, even born so close to ’01, as he was. Too much to go into here, but made me think about perspective. And so much else.
Haha. I didn’t see olives, either, until you mentioned it!
I think that new mystery gnome is going to be big… I haven’t started it yet, myself.
I love that gnome and your stitching is just lovely. I will be starting September after I finish my current book (which I only just started).
I have not read Adam Bede….I must put that on my list. Now that sweet lil acorn is killing me!! so cute. I saw flowers until you said olives….
I love this looks of this sweet little gnome. And that little bird is so sweet. You are so creative. I didn’t see the olives at all. There is something mesmerizing about hand stitching. I sure like the looks of the Marled Shawl – keep knitting.
