JANUARY,
The first month of the year,
A perfect time to start all over again,
Changing energies and deserting old moods,
New beginnings, new attitudes
―
And perhaps even knowing what actual day it is! Yes, hello, January!
Yes, I have spent the last two weeks in a “haze of days” where every day felt like a weekend. There were odd amounts of Monday’s as well, with each week having more than one… or so it felt!
But yesterday when I sat down to turn the page in my calendar to “peek into” this week… it felt very Sundayish and I am now ready to welcome a new month!
One that is not creeping in slowly, despite my “what day is it” confusion!
Already, I have accomplished BIG things… My new stitching is set up and I have even stitched every day!
Last year’s stitch pages have been washed and are now dry… ready for me to put them together.
And I have found a new rhythm with my Marled Scarf… I have just 3 color changes to go to completion!
So with all that already under my belt… what possibly else can this month hold?
Here are the other things I’d like to find space for this month:
- The Great Closet Clean Out! Yes, cold weather has finally set in so I need to put away the lingering “warmer weather” clothes and do a good sorting.
- The Great Pantry Clean Out! My pantry is the very bane of my existence, but I am determined to “start fresh” this month and bring some semblance of order to its shelves!
- The Great Desk Clean OFF! Ugh, really… just a huge ugh to this one. I want to find some “organizing accessories” to help me keep my space uncluttered, inviting, a space where I can write, read some poetry, and begin my day in a more orderly fashion… versus the absolute chaos it is right now!
And it is not just the “doing” of these things… it is the combination of doing them and keeping Frankie amused! Wish me luck!
Six days in… with a list that looks short but is really overly full! What about you? What do you hope to accomplish this month?
I will see you all back here on Wednesday with some unraveling!
I hope you get through your clean outs this month! I have been trying to clean out my pantry, but I’ve been doing it in a somewhat lazy, half-assed way. I’ve been planning dinner around what is in the freezer and the pantry and then when they get down to manageable levels, I’ll take everything out, wipe shelves and re-organize when I put things back. We’ll see when I get to them and then how long the organization lasts!
Ha! We are on similar wave-lengths Kat! I spent some time yesterday cleaning off my desk (have yet to tackle the drawers…) and I mentioned on my post today that I want to pull things from the pantry to make a donation for our local food pantry. Wishing us both luck in getting things done!
We had a pad thai kit in our pantry that we finally cooked up and had for dinner. I felt so accomplished getting that out of the cupboard!! Happy January to you!!
Great minds! I am tackling a closet today. It is good knowing others have nagging corners of disorganization in their lives.
January is so lovely in that we can all reset ourselves. I have put Christmas away now, tree back in its box and under the stairs, wreath dismantled ready for the bin collection. Without meaning too inadvance I have tidied and sorted both my sewing box and yarn stash. I was looking for things, and whilst I was with January time on my hands I tidied. I shall continue with this I think, tidying where I find myself. My desk looks fine..that’s because I have moved the heap onto a chair a few weeks ago, maybe that will be my next tidy up!
I definitely have some cleaning/organizing in a couple of storage areas on my list. These past couple of weeks have been BONKERS in terms of activity, so I’m looking forward to feeling a bit more grounded while doing these things. (I already cleaned out one of the in-bins on my desk!)
Organizing and tidying inside sound like perfect activities right now (with some knitting and warm beverage breaks, too). I’ve got to do some closet cleaning out, too, more in terms of weeding out things I don’t wear anymore and donating.
I hear you, especially on that pantry clean out. We have a big/tall cabinet in our kitchen for food and then another one in our mudroom. The one in the kitchen has all my baking supplies and then everything else is older stuff that should be tossed while the one in the mudroom has the food I actually need. It’s too cold to work in the mudroom but I could definitely get going on the kitchen cabinet and work on the mudroom one when we have a warmer day.
Those clean outs are something I need to do, too! But I know that I will not. I am cheering you on!
And good job getting everything all set up for a successful month. Stay warm!
You inspire me to reorganize my writing space. The new year and January are made for cleaning out spaces. This past week, I dusted and tidied our main living areas. Today I worked on basement family room which included getting the bins with Christmas decor back into storage. The dust was thick and the space chaotic after the holidays. My list this week includes wiping down the kitchen, tossing and organizing my knitting stash/future projects and getting the stitch journal underway. Here is to getting some of these items ticked off our lists.
But isn’t it a ‘beautiful haze’ …..for most of us it is a peaceful time when really (unless it’s a necessity) we don’t need to know what day it is. Reality appears all too soon.
Once all your clean out/offs are done you’ll be right to start the year proper. Sounds like the same ‘ll be going on in many followers homes as well….mine included! It’s too hot outside at the moment so as well as clicking those needles I’m playing the tossing game.
All of these things are on my permanent to-do list. I do them, then several months later, I find I need to do them again. Perhaps it is related to my “messy” nature? Of course it is. I hope you enjoy the accomplishment that doing these sorts of things will bring. My overriding goal this month is to put optimism top of my list. Doesn’t sound like much, but it takes a lot of energy in the cold, dark winter with what is on the horizon.
Best of luck to you with your cleaning-out tasks! I’ve been working on those same things for the last bits of time. My biggest problem is not the Doing, but the Keeping Them That Way once I’m finished. (Sigh.) (The circle of life . . . ) Happy January!
What a full first week! Wow! I’ll bet it feels great. I’m sort of the opposite as this month starts…. Not very collected organized! Kids JUST went back to school (thought they’d never!), an old friend came to town for a week, I got to have dinner w/ Sr. Joan Chittister last night(!!) (tears ran down my face three separate times) (I got to sit right next to her!), and I’m hosting the One Word workshop this Friday w/ 25 attending this time around (a lot, for me!) So my feet aren’t really under me yet. It went from holidays….to this wild week! Thinking I’ll get a quiet pocket sometime next week to digest it all and reflect.
