Is for finding community!
Like all of you, I have been struggling with all the stuff that is overwhelming us daily. I have spent more time “doomscrolling” than is healthy but on one of my recent avoidance sessions Professor Crunk, aka Professor Brittney Cooper, arrived and she turned on a lightbulb for me… a big, bright, shiny lightbulb!
Community! And I began jotting down all the areas of community that lift me, give me strength, that nod along when I rage, that rage while I am nodding along… by Sunday I had quite an amazing list! This blog community was on my list, as were a few other online communities that I really like engaging with during the week… these communities are vital to my well-being right now!

What was missing from my list? Local, in person community… so maybe it’s time to try to rejuvenate my local knitting group or find a new local knitting group!
Happy Monday everyone! See you all back here on Wednesday (with perhaps a finished sweater!!)
Anytime you want to get together to knit or spin, let me know! It’s a bit ridiculous that we live so close yet see each other most often on Zoom.
I had just been thinking about trying to find a local knitting group. I think there is one that meets at my library! And that would be combining two loves – knitting AND reading!
I keep myself busy as much as I can. I have some groups I meet at our church that I love and of course I have my sister and other family near by.
My exit from IG lasted a whole 36 hours before I missed Margaret Renkl and things like this. I saw Professor Crunk when I re-joined, so I knew it was the right decision. Thanks for sharing and fostering community!
I haven’t knit in an in-person group setting in ages!
I am really fortunate to have a couple of informal local groups of people I get together with on the regular. It does add a level of joy to my days, so I’m in wholehearted support of your endeavor. I’ve found that in-person art classes/activities are a really great way to get to know people and make new friends. Are there any that you could join in???
There is a poem/meme circulating on IG about joy and love being resistance. Your post reminds me of a line that says Community is the resistance to poor leadership. So good for you. I do have two local groups of friends and being with them feeds my soul. I wish the same for you.
You might check your library and see if they have any groups you might want to join. Maybe a book club or writers group or something along those lines? Or a civic group like Kiwanis or Lions? I get a lot of joy from helping our community as a member of Kiwanis. I hope you find something that inspires you with local connections.
