is for sharing some gratitudes.
Gratitude number one… two weeks ago a my ex’s wife died very, very unexpectedly. She and I had a complicated relationship, but she was an amazing step-mother/grandmother and Vivi, especially, has been struggling with this loss and I really did not know what to do to help… so I reached out to Carole with hopes that she might know some books that might help with children’s grief. She sent me an amazing list of books that span the ages of my grandkids. I ordered them all and they will be heading off to them today. A huge thank you to Carole and her Children’s Librarian… I mean, librarians are simply the best.
Gratitude number two… receiving my first social security payment! And getting all the extra paperwork dropped off (on Friday) so I can receive my spousal benefit. Thank you to that Allegan County employee who helped me and to the very haggard social security employee who copied all my paperwork on Friday! I am reminded that people who work for the government do so because they want to help others… you both are shining examples of exactly what being a public servant means!
Gratitude number three… finding the perfect person to install a clothes line in my backyard! Last week the guy came to trim out bushes and I asked him if he knew anyone who could do such a task. He let me know that he would be thrilled to do that for me and for a very reasonable price! We walked off dimensions and if the rain lets up this week he will get it installed! Thank you, Phil for solving this for me!
Gratitude number four… a huge thanks to all the people who showed up on Saturday all across this nation! You are all what democracy looks like!
Happy Monday, everyone! See you all back here on Wednesday!
what a lovely post!! I am so glad you were helped with books on grief and the Social Security paper filings. So much good news!!
I’m sorry for the sudden death in your family, but aside from that, this post is wonderful. It’s hard for kids to learn about death and grief, and I’m glad there are lots of books. I could only find one after our first goldfish died, but we read it a lot and it eventually helped the kids deal with the death of two grandparents. I’m always excited when I actually receive my SS payment, and kudos to the helpful civil employees. And bravo to Phil; I hope you are drying clothes on the line soon!
I love your gratitude post Kat! Such good things. I’m sorry about your ex’s wife’s sudden death, but how great to have a librarian friend who can help with book suggestions for your grandchildren. Navigating SS can be a struggle at times. I’m glad you had folks who were able and willing to help you. Saturday was pretty amazing nationwide. Thank God! I feel like the tide may be turning and am hopeful! Yay for your clothesline!! I hope Phil can get it in soon and I hope the sun comes out so you can dry some clothes outside!
Librarians are the best (I said, self-congratulating myself …)!
Oh a clothesline – it’s the one thing about summer that I enjoy. I hope yours makes you happy!
I’m sorry to hear about this loss in your family, and I hope Vivi’s grief is helped by your thoughtful books (and yes, librarians are amazing). I’m glad for these other small victories. I’m also very grateful for all the people who showed up this weekend! I wasn’t able to attend a protest, but seeing the photos of the crowds online gave me hope!
Aw, good for you $$. I’m still waiting to hear whether (THAT) my social security application has been approved! Hopefully, this week or next.
I’m so glad I was able to help you out with some book suggestions. As much a you all appreciate librarians, we love to do what we do and it’s especially great when we know it helped. Your other things are wonderful, too. Dale gets SS and it’s a great benefit! And I can’t wait to see photos of clothes drying on the line.
Librarians are the best. I’m glad you were assisted by helpful employees and found your way through the Social Security maze. You remind me to make a list of things for which to be grateful. I had my hands full but it was energizing to read about the protests locally and across the country.
