After a very rainy, steamy, warm weekend… it seems that summer weather is upon us. The second wave of allium are about to burst open, the bee balm is nearly five feet tall, the lavender has exploded, and the weeds are taking advantage of the rain and each morning I feel a bit more like I am losing the battle.
But the Orioles have landed! Yes, that is right… this weekend we saw Baltimore Orioles at the jelly feeder multiple times! Last year, not a single Oriole visited, but my persistence has paid off! “Good things come to those who wait” has been ringing in my head all weekend!
I had some “Gnome-spiration” over the weekend as I worked away on the sweater of the Big Sister Gnome. I am knitting at a frenzied pace to get my inspiration to reality… (think a bit of a riff on Lindsey Degen’s 4 Letter Sweater) I hope to show you all how my ideas worked on Wednesday… stay tuned!
Finally, on the top of my list this morning is to begin working on my medicare choices with PA MEDI. Wish me luck! Ha!
Happy Monday all and I will see you all back here on Wednesday!

How lucky you are to see orioles! Clearly word just needed to get around that your oriole cafe was open. I saw a couple of Carolina wrens in my backyard last week, which was pretty exciting, especially as I don’t have a feeder.
Best of luck navigating the Medicare stuff!
I’m glad you were persistent and now have orioles! They are lovely to see. I’m looking forward to hopefully seeing your Gnome ideas; you always have the best ones. Medicare is full of scary choices. I went with basic Medicare, a supplemental plan, and a prescription plan the first year, thinking I could change the next year if wasn’t happy. I’ve been relatively satisfied and haven’t changed anything after three years on Medicare. Good luck in finding what works best for you!
Orioles!!! They are in the area, but we’ve never had them in our yard. BUT, I saw the first hummingbird of the season over the weekend and I think our wrens and bluebirds will be fledging soon (lots and lots of chatter in the two houses). Best of luck navigating the Medicare choices. Fletch and I have both A&B and a Medicare advantage plan. That has worked well for us and the best part is that there is no charge for our advantage plan! I’m excited to see your gnome sweater on Wednesday!!
good luck with the medicare!! eep! Yes summer is here and twice I felt too hot….and so it begins! I am now knitting other ‘stuff’ (yay)
Orioles are so beautiful. I saw one female this year but didn’t have the energy to put out the jelly/orange feeder. Best of luck with Medicare options. It certainly is complicated and an important decision.
Best of luck to you with the Medicare stuff, Kat. Like Bonny, Tom and I went with basic Medicare, a supplemental plan, plus a prescription plan. It’s been great — and especially because a lot of the “advantage” plans . . . aren’t really all that “advantageous” for the long haul. It’s complicated stuff — and extremely confusing. You’re wise to learn all you can. (And I can’t wait to see the new gnome inspiration!!!)
And there was me thinking the gnome you were working on the other day was a BOY. I hope ‘she’ turns out to be a Big Sister with attitude
I believe we do have a species of Orioles here in Australia but I’ve never heard any discussion on them so take it they might stay further north……rabbit holes here I come
We had warm weather at the end of the week but now it’s cold again. Mother Nature sure is fickle this year. I hope the Medicare stuff isn’t terribly confusing! I have a jelly feeder out for the first time this year. I haven’t seen any orioles yet but the catbirds like it.
Hi there!! I’m catching up with some blog reading on this dreary Saturday in WNY—and you’ve answered, here, a question I’ve been sitting with: Should I keep bothering with my Oriole feeder? I’ve seen them in our general area, and I have friends who get them at their feeders, but 6 weeks in and nada. Maybe just….be MORE patient?
Good luck with your MediCare navigation. With big stuff like that, my mantra is Small bites. Baby steps.
