Greetings Gentle Unravelers!
This is the final Wednesday in June and one that here in the Pittsburgh area that continues under a heat advisory. Yes, summer arrived and she brought all the heat and humidity she could carry. Thanks… really, thanks so much… not!
I know that insane temperatures and knitting with wool seems an oxymoron but I was feeling guilty about abandoning that Green Vest… so I picked it back up and knit! (Okay, maybe the constant AC running also spurred me to gather up some wool as well!) I achieved the desired body length and have begun the ribbing! The end is in sight…on the last version of this delightful pattern the sleeve/neckline ribbing went rather quickly! And though this vest won’t likely get much wear before October, it will be a nice surprise to pull out when the leaves begin to change!
I have made some headway on the Shakerag Top as well! It is a semi-mindless knit… I have to pay attention to rows… but for right now, it is such easy-peasy knitting! And I really love knitting with this yarn again!
The other “thing” I have been experimenting with is trying to get the hang of EPP sans glue… i.e. stitching around the papers. I have watched a number of videos with a number of different techniques and I think I found my groove! I have some incredibly inexpensive (i.e. not 100% cotton) fabric scraps that I am practicing with. I will keep at it until I have a good stack of hexies and then I will stitch them together and see how that goes. The learning process is just so fun… isn’t it?
The reading this week has been… slow… I have been listening to Eve L. Ewing’s Original Sins. I finished it yesterday and have not yet rated it… however, it is a book I will be thinking about for a long time.
At night, I am reading a Robert Bryndza mystery, Chasing Shadows. I am just barely into it… so I have no real thoughts about it yet.
What are you thinking about as we wind down June and, more importantly…what are you doing to cool?!
As always, if you wrote a post to share please leave your link below and thank you!
I was just thinking about that green vest and am glad to see you’ve resumed knitting on it! I’ve got air conditioners in the bedroom and living room, so I spend time back and forth between those rooms. It’s getting slightly claustrophobic, but certainly better than having no ac. My reading and knitting have slowed down, but maybe I’ll gather up the motivation to knit the heel flap and turn on my sock on Friday when it’s supposed to cool down.
Yes, summer has definitely arrived in full force! Like Bonny, we have AC units in bedrooms and the living room (thank goodness). Colin & Mailing have central air and I find myself actually a bit chilly at times when over there. But, I’ll step into the sunroom to warm up and visit Talbot the cat who loves the heat despite being a Maine coon cat! I’m drinking more water than I ever have.
I love the color of your green vest so much and that will be a fun Fall garment for sure. And I’m excited to see your Shakerag top – I have not yet bought the yarn, but I am seriously thinking about it!!
I’ve never done EPP or anything like it. Your hexies look to be pretty tiny, but very cute. And yay for learning new things (I’m doing the Continental Knitting class at MDK on Friday!).
I know there are lots of people who won’t knit with wool in the summer, but I am always cold in the AC and have no problem with it, and as you said, it’ll be great to have that new vest ready when there’s the first chill in the air in the fall! That green is so perfect, too. I’ll be interested to see how your EPP experiment goes. I’ve never quite understood how that works, so perhaps I’ll do a little online research. I’ve been feeling an itch to do a little stitching but don’t necessarily want to get out the machine, and it seems like a good way to use up some little bits I have sitting around.
Hope you continue to stay as comfortable as possible in this heat — at least rain is on the way!
It is always such a pleasure to pull out a new, already-knit sweater when fall rolls around! I love the color of your vest, and think it will add such a nice ZING to your wardrobe. I knit a Shakerag top a couple of summers ago, and while I generally like it . . . there are things I wish I’d done differently in the knitting. I’ve always meant to try another . . . Maybe someday! (Perhaps yours will inspire me to actually knit another . . . ) XO
as long as I have air conditioning I can knit with wool. It is too hot out there! I started a little baby sweater in 100% wool and I’m loving the project. Love that green!!!
Autumn Kat will be delighted with that vest! Such a great colour.
That’s a lovely pile of projects!
Summer has arrived for sure. Our heat traveled East, leaving us with cooler temps and rain. The downside is the humidity is up. Ah summer. That vest will be lovely in the fall. You inspire me to try a vest. I hope we hear how the EPP venture turns out. I tried using freezer paper with not much luck. I couldn’t quite figure out how to stitch down the raw edge without stitching showing on the front.
