If one could “order up” a weekend, it would have been like the weekend we just had! Not a lick of humidity in the air so I opened the windows and let August in!
Breathe the sweetness that hovers in August. — Denise Levertov
August is the month of slow start mornings… right now the sun is not rising here until well after 6:00AM (and really closer to 6:30 AM) so the morning feels like it has a reverent, hushed quality to it – even the birds are quiet – and by the end of the month sunrise time will be edging closer to the seven o’clock hour! I love these slow start mornings so much… before the start of school diminishes the current solitude of the morning. Perhaps these slow start mornings are what Ms. Levertov is talking about with her August quote… there was plenty of sweetness to breathe in these first few August days!
This week ushers in a week of not my usual eating… I have some tests next Monday (an endoscopy is the main reason but they are doing my colonoscopy as well) No raw vegetables, no whole grains, no nuts… sigh. The nurse who went over the diet with me seemed excited for my “week of white bread and carb loading”… I wish I shared her enthusiasm…sigh.
August will find me continuing to knit for babies… I have blanket number two underway. Each stitch is filled with love for these new lives soon to be part of our family. I was delighted to see that Julia Farwell-Clay will be welcoming a grand baby this year as well and she has begun knitting her Welcome to the Flock sweater. I think I am going to join her and knit a trio of them for the coming babies… it will be the perfect sentiment to welcome them to the flock of my grandchildren!
I have reworked a few of the “daily stitching guidelines” to make the layout work for the remainder of the year… just 5 months to go. Which sounds so long… and so very short!

July stitching…
But mostly, dear August, my plan is to breathe in deeply of the sweetness of your days!
Happy Monday and Happy August! I will see you all back here tomorrow when I join Vera with a cross-stitch update!

This weekend was such a treat — it really did not feel like August at all! I hope it continues because I’m tired of feeling like I’m melting. I wish you luck with your diet this week. I’m someone who eats mostly the stuff you’re not permitted to eat, so it sounds challenging (but maybe cooked veggies are okay?). With any luck, the scans will provide useful information!
I was sitting here this morning wondering why things felt so different, and I think it’s the reverential quiet you wrote about. Later today the cicadas will definitely be heard, so the quiet is a real pleasure. It’s always a pleasure to see your stitching. Here’s hoping the scans go well, especially after your diet of white bread!
Oh yuck to that diet! Good luck with that. And, I hope the test results next week provide some answers. Wasn’t this past weekend marvelous? Temps are starting to rise this week, but I think today will still be really nice. Your daily stitching is coming along nicely Kat!
god luck with the testing! ugh to the carb loading, I sleep terribly when I eat like that!! Lovely stitching!!
While I celebrate the coming of your FLOCK of knitting (can’t wait to see those sweaters come to life!!!), I am so sorry to hear about your endoscopy/colonoscopy double whammy. Oh, I will be sending ALL the juju your way, Kat. XO
Those tests are definitely not fun but getting them done is smart and hopefully it will lead you to some answers. I am always intrigued by how different doctors approach the prep. Mine has never changed my diet in advance of the test but I know several people like you who have had to do that.
Good luck with the diet. I’ve had multiple Endo/Colonscopies and have only had the one day before prep. I was in the ER in April and while undergoing various blood/other tests ate mostly bread and bland stuff till June. I got the ok in June to eat some stuff again so have added stuff back in and cutting it back out if it bothers me.
Can’t wait to see the cute baby sweaters.
The stitching looks as peaceful as the beginning of your post. The respite from the heat is so nice. At least you can have those two tests at the same time and not have to endure the diet for two different testing times. I hope the tests yield useful information for you. Whew! You have had quite the summer. Enjoy all the baby knitting. “Welcome to the Flock” is the perfect sweater idea for the new little ones.
This has not been the greatest summer around here! Too hot, too humid, too wet, and TOO SMOKY!! After a couple of weeks of wildfire smoke clouding things up here in varying degrees, we’re finally smoke-free today… just in time for hot weather and more *#&$& rain (which we now need, I guess).
Best of luck tomorrow with the oscophies.. not pleasant. Love your stitching.
