August rain: the best of summer gone, and the new fall not yet born. The odd uneven time. — Sylvia Plath
There has been some August rain recently here in the South Hills of Pittsburgh…which has been extremely welcome because things are dry, dry, dry.
August also dramatically takes away daylight… we lose 70 minutes of daylight between the 1st and the 31st… sigh. Although, those August rains coupled with slower sunrises have made for some beautiful orange skies on my walks last week. I will date myself, but as I amble about with Sherman, Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds plays in the soundtrack of my mind…Marmalade skies are glowing around me and it is quite delightful. The birdsong has diminished on our early morning walks so that soundtrack has no competition! Ha!
May your Monday usher in a week that has some bright spots and perhaps some “marmalade skies”! See you all back here tomorrow with a stitching update!

That rain yesterday was so welcome! And it feels better outside this morning, too. I remembered to take my phone with me on the first potty break this morning so I could snap a photo of the sky. Those marmalade skies are stunning!
It’s very dry here, too, and I’m envious of your rain. And your marmalade skies! We’ve just got gray clouds here but that’s okay as the temperature will be 20 degrees less than yesterday. Thanks for a pleasant earworm this morning!
As Bonny mentioned, finally it will be a little cooler here. But, it is still humid. And another week when we don’t need to have our grass cut! We did get a little bit of rain last night, but not too much. I’m surprised our grass is still green. I’ve noticed pink in the morning sky which is so pretty. Definitely decreased birdsong and noticeably shorter daylight hours.
lol you just had me checking sunrise/sunset for August and at home in Kilsyth we will gain just over 60 mins……swings and roundabouts eh? Spring will be on its way and the grass will be growing again😊
I love that the days are getting shorter!! That means we are inching away to fall and cooler weather. We barely got any rain over the weekend.
We needed rain, and now I wish it would move on over to you! August is a big time of change…
Oh the dog days of August. We have a few more days of hot hot weather and then maybe it will cool off into the 80’s. I well remember “Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds” so we can both be dated.
August . . . really does bring big changes. We’ve had an almost just-right amount of rain this summer (which is why you don’t hear me complaining much) . . . but it has been awfully hot and humid. I enjoy the changing seasons, but I’m not quite ready for the end of summer. Yet. XO
