September showed up right on schedule, and lasted a whole month.

Hello September… right on time again!
I am old enough to remember when September was my least favorite month. Sad endings and beginnings… The end of summer reading and the beginning of school… sigh. It is almost comical how having children changes ones point of view… back to school might not such a bad thing after all! I am thankful to say that my children enjoyed the return to school… for the most part and we were a reading household… no one ever complained in my house if someone was reading!
I have come to love September for its incredible light… the days of long shadows are delightful. And though we have had a spate of crisp, chilly mornings… I know that there will be plenty of warm sunny days to be outdoors appreciating those long shadows!
I don’t have a long list of things I want to accomplish this month… or perhaps it is better described as a not very varied list because there is a good amount of knitting! I figured out the key twist to success for those first and last sheep… and I am so happy with the results (more on that tomorrow!) But here is my list:
- Knit two more sheep-y baby sweaters!
- Begin the last blanket (I am not foolish enough to imagine it will be knit this month!)
- Learn about Ladderback Jacquard knitting!
- Finish Heidi’s counted cross stitch!
And there you have my hopes for September! What about you… what do you hope September holds for you?
I will see you all back here tomorrow!

Sounds like a plan Kat! I’ve always loved September and used to look forward to going back to school. Now I love it for the weather. And our weather continues to be absolutely gorgeous – 70’s during the day and low 50’s at night. The only downside is that pollen seems to have returned!
I love September; the heat and humidity are mostly over and it leads to October and November! I’m glad the sheep are behaving and I look forward to hearing about that. I hope I figure out Ryan’s Christmas scarf to his satisfaction in September but aside from that my goals are just to enjoy the lovely slant of light.
I used to look forward to the start of the school year because it meant that Molly would be back on a regular schedule, but I miss not having the whole afternoon to sit, especially now that Ruthie regularly naps next to me. I keep reminding myself that I’ll only have school pickup for three more years at the most and not to rush it! But I do love the light and the weather at this time of year — the crisp mornings, the warm afternoons, and that beautiful golden light.
I am feeling totally the opposite. I loved Septembers in the past with the promise of new beginings and new things to learn. This year I have adored the sunshine from April right through to the end of August. And it’s turned wet and chilly again here and next Spring seems so far away. But I shall make the most of what Autumn has to offer….
I love September because next comes October. I loved going back to school but would be disappointed in September because it was too warm to wear my fall school clothes.
I love September and not just because it’s my birth month!
You’ve got a plan. I wish you all sorts of good making with your list. I love September – the beginning of fall.
