Greetings gentle Unravelers and Happy October to you!!
Also… turning the calendar to October is a reminder to me that I need to get my knit in gear! It is crunch time baby knitting around here! I have started Heidi’s baby blanket on the 24th and got to the first color change on the 28th. If that pace holds, I will easily get this done well before Heidi is due on November 8.
I have sewn on buttons and I really like how each look the tiniest bit different. They will be in the post soon… I still have to give the sweaters a bit of a wash and dry and then write up the washing instructions to tuck in with the sweaters.

Black and grey buttons for black and grey sheep on the left and beige mother of pearl buttons for beige sheep! I am so happy with how the sweaters turned out!!
I don’t have any sewing to share today, but maybe next week.
The reading has been a bit of a mixed bag. Sarah let me know that The Salt Stones was available on Hoopla (versus the still weeks long wait on Libby) so I listened to it and for me it was just okay… a 3.5 star book. Ms. Whybrow is certainly no James Rebanks, just saying. He is a superior writer, imo. But while I was listening to The Salt Stones a couple of books broke loose from the Libby Hold Hell… Claire Lynch’s A Family Matter and then Robert Thorogood’s Murder on the Marlow Belle!
I started on Monday with A Family Matter and once I started, I could not stop! A moving look into a family with some secrets. The timeline moves between the recent past (the 80’s) and currently… my heart ached for the pain this family was in, the story unfolds beautifully, and the ending authors note reminded me that equal rights for the LGBTQ+ community are still new and very fragile. I cried and thought about how fragile a thing rights are. It is a story that will stay with me for a very long time and I highly recommend it!
I started Murder on the Marlow Belle yesterday and am enjoying spending time with Judith, Suzie, and Becks!
At night I am almost done with the latest Ann Cleeves mystery, The Killing Stones… it feels good to be back with Jimmy Perez and Willow Reeves… I had missed them! (and it is delightful to be “in” the Orkney’s!!)
Finally, a bit of good news… Reading Rainbow is back with a new host! I am telling you all that this might be the best news of the entire year!

Those sweaters Kat! Darling. I love the so subtle differences between them. I’m in the queue (#13) for The Salt Stones and will give it a try when it comes in – I’ve seen some mixed reviews about it, so my expectations are not great, but we shall see. I’m adding “A Family Matter” to my TBR list.
Those jumpers are so cute. Unfortunately we’re in the ‘those who are going to have babies have had them” and before the grandbaby stage, or I’d be knitting them myself.
Those sweaters! They are impossibly cute — and will be even more so once they’re on their recipients. I’m sorry The Salt Stones wasn’t as big a hit for you as it was for me (but I also haven’t read any James Rebanks yet; I’m waiting for the library to get The Place of Tides). I’m also delighted by the Reading Rainbow news! That show was one of my favorites as a child, and Mychal is just a delight. I can’t wait to see the new shows!
I love those sweaters! They are beyond adorable and the buttons are simply perfect – the same but different. And the blanket looks delightfully squishy. There’s nothing like baby knitting to surround those babies with love! Books rarely make me cry, but The Family Matter did. Especially knowing that those situations really happened to real people and like you said, how fragile those rights are. I was thrilled that Reading Rainbow is coming back and wished I could turn on PBS immediately to see it. Unraveled Wednesdays often make me feel like there is good news even if it doesn’t feel like that the rest of the week, so thank you!
Oh, Kat! Those little sheepy cardigans are the CUTEST little baby sweaters ever. They are so very sweet. (Sigh.) And your baby blanket is off to a great start — and I’ll bet you finish early, even. I, too am celebrating the return of Reading Rainbow (and so happy for Mychal, too). XO
The buttons are perfect for the cardigans. Those washing instructions are just so important.
Those sweaters are adorable and I loved how you made each one different but they look almost exactly the same, clever you!!! We are powering through the baby knits!!
Oh, Kat, those little cardigans are WONDERFUL!! You found the PERFECT buttons for each!
I was so happy to read about Mychal & Reading Rainbow!
The sweaters are the cutest! Thank you for
The sweaters are the cutest!
Thank you for sharing about Reading Rainbow, I hadn’t seen that news yet. Mychal couldn’t be a better fit. As a child of the 80’s who didn’t have cable, Reading Rainbow is one of my core tv watching memories!
The wee SHEEP! I just love them.
Even though everyone else has also chimed in, I can’t not say how adorable those little sweaters are! Practically perfect in every way 😉
Also celebrating about Reading Rainbow – what a lovely thing!
The sweaters are adorable.
What darling little sheepy sweaters. And how nice to have some good news about Reading Rainbow returning. Keep on knitting on the baby knits. I predict you will finish the blanket in time for this baby and honestly he or she is going to need a blanket for quite a long time.
The sweaters are perfectly adorable! And I also really enjoyed A Family Matter even thought it was so heartbreaking. I’m very excited about Reading Rainbow and Mychal is awesome and a great spokesperson for librarians everywhere!
