Greetings dear Unravelers and Happy first Wednesday in December and welcome to Gnome Central!
First, I would like to thank all of you who have messaged me, sent me a card, and left such beautiful comments. Your thoughts lift me… and they are a light in the darkness. Thank you for also holding my son and daughter-in-law in your thoughts… it means more than you will ever know.
I have begun the first clue of this month’s mystery gnome… and I have a mini-Gnock in process as well. I think this little version of the big Gnock might be a feminine gnome, but time will tell. I have begun the legs and sock knitting… one done, one to go. It is fiddly knitting, but it absolutely occupies the mind… so that is a very good thing.
Reading is a struggle right now, but I am so enjoying Truman Capote’s book of holiday short stories. I am about half way through and when I have it finished I will pick up Nina MacLaughlin’s Winter Solstice. An acquaintance mentioned Katherine May’s Wintering… and yes, I think that will be the next perfect thing for me to read.
What about you? Are you frantically holiday knitting? Reading anything good? Inquiring minds want to know!
If you wrote a post to share, please leave your link below and thank you!

I’m glad that you’re feeling up to gnome knitting — that’s always a good sign! I need to start some gnome knitting of my own, for my nephew, but I’m trying to finish up a badly needed pair of mittens for myself first.
It’s good to read that both your knitting and reading are bringing you some comfort. YAY for gnomes! LOL. I really enjoyed that Truman Capote book last year (or the year before – I can’t remember).
That is a beautiful picture, with a lovely Christmas cactus and gnomes in progress! I’m glad to hear that you have found knitting and reading that works for you now. I am looking forward to seeing some of your patented gnome imagination in the future to give these gnomes their real personalities. I thought I had read this Truman Capote book, but goodreads says otherwise, so I’m off to check the library.
I think Wintering might be the perfect book for you right now, Kat. (And maybe something comforting and pleasantly predictable . . . like Winter Solstice by Rosamunde Pilcher. And that little gnome hat is about the cutest little thing! Knit on, my friend. XO
Knit on, dear Kat! You can’t go wrong with gnomes. 😉
Your gnome gnitting offers a sweet spark of joy — and reminds me of the & space. How life by its very nature must hold room for both. …& that’s easier said than done. So when it does happen, I hope you are embracing it.
Rosamunde Pilcher is my go-to feel-good this time of year. But I’m not one to give any advice, as nothing seems to hold my attention lately! After starting and returning 4 books, I’m sticking with a biography of Coco Chanel. So interesting to learn of her humble beginnings.

Love the colors for your gnome. I have a bunch of kits to make the previous ones and this one but have never started them. Maybe next year I will make a plan.
Here’s to gnome knitting. We arrived home last night to winter so all the wool is on my mind, in particular a Sophie hood as it might be as warm as a hat without absolutely smashing my hair to my head. I think Wintering by Katherine May would be a great read. I might even pull out my copy and reread it.
I can’t wait to watch this little gnome grow! And your holiday reading sounds just perfect for right now. ❤️
I’m glad you’re able to knit a bit and feel happy about it. I second Kym’s recommendation for Rosamunde Pilcher’s Winter Solstice. It’s a lovely book and I almost always read it between Christmas and New Year’s Eve. Thinking of all of you, all of the time.
ah! gnome knitting – the ultimate comfort knitting!! I love watching you create the little beings!!
