Greetings dear Unravelers and Happy Wednesday!
The recent weather here in the South Hills of Pittsburgh has been truly extraordinary! Clear blue skies with occasional wisps of clouds, light breezes, absolutely zero humidity, and temps in the 70’s… really extraordinary days!
All this incredible weather means I have been out of doors a lot! The few garden areas are mostly weeded (there is one area in the front yard that I should tackle, but it feels a bit too much like work so I am presently ignoring it!)
Instead I have been looking at ITO Kinu colors and contemplating projects… and leave it to Ann for pushing me over the edge. It wasn’t really a big push… another Marled Scarf has been rattling around in my brain. I picked 6 colors and they arrived on Monday and after dinner I began Micro-Swatching.
I think there is nothing better in all of the knitting world than the wonder of marling + micro-swatching.

Micro-swatch mapping is such fun!
I spent some time Tuesday contemplating my path and how many stitches to cast on. I think I have an interesting layout… a bit different from my first. I am planning for it to be a bit narrower and the colors could not be more different. The simplicity of the pattern is the perfect summer knit and marling is such a fun thing to do!
It was a stellar week for reading as well! I finished Dr. Ibram X. Kendi’s Chain of Ideas. It was so good and I learned so much. And I’d like to confess, I was astonishingly surprised at how fascism just can’t seem to be stamped out! That part was very shocking to me… very shocking. If you have liked Dr. Kendi’s previous books, you will very much enjoy Chain of Ideas and I highly recommend it. I combined listening to Dr Kendi read and read with my eyes… a very good pairing.
I am listening to Homeseeking by Karissa Chen and loving it! Honestly, it is hard to stop listening to this story told by Suchi and Haiwen… one part told from the past forward, the other told from current time to the past. A fascinating way to unfurl a story! I don’t remember how this crossed my radar, but I am so very glad it did!
And there you have what is occupying my time… what about you? What do you hope June holds for you?
As always, if you wrote a post to share please leave your link below and thank you!

Oh my! I’m loving the shades of Ito Kinu that you have chosen. Marling with that yarn should be so much fun! Can’t wait to see your scarf. I still have not swatched for my Shakerag, but I will. I WILL!!! I just finished The Artist and the Feast and it was SO good. Now I’m in the middle of Kin and enjoying that. This weather…what a gift!
I have been savoring this weather as much as possible — it’s so rare that we get the sunshine and blue skies without the humidity! Love seeing all your tiny swatches. It must be so much fun to play around with the colors. I just started Ann Patchett’s new book last night because it arrived in yesterday’s mail!
I love your colors of Ito Kinu and your microswatch map! It will be quite interesting to see this as you knit. Those colors are gorgeous and this sounds like perfect summer knitting. I put both of those books on hold, and even though the library tells me I have a two month wait for both of them, they sound like they are worth waiting for. Thanks!
I don’t think you’ll be able to make a bad move with that incredible palette of colors to choose from! My goodness that is gorgeous yarn! Enjoy your micro-swatching. The weeding will (unfortunately) be waiting for you . . . in case the inspiration to indulge in a chore takes hold. (I often find it does NOT, though.) And the weather has been a delight over this way, too. I’m soaking it up and hoping it lasts a while longer. XO
I am listening to Chain of Ideas right now. It’s taking some persistence but it’s worth it I think.
I didn’t love knitting with the Kinu yarn but it’s beautiful.
That looks like a lot of fiddly fun!! Looking forward to seeing what happens. Those colors are gorgeous!
Those swatches! Not a bad choice amongst them.
I think that micro swatching looks like a PITA but I’m glad you’re enjoying it and the colors are wonderful. Homeseeking was SO good. It’s one that sticks with you, too.
The colors on those cones look wonderful – no matter how you choose to combine them. Between you lovely weather, the color play, and great books you have had a stellar week. May it continue.
those little stitches are so cute!! I love them:) There is nothing like planning a new project. I cleaned out my knitting bag and moved into a new one!
