I confess to feeling a bit of sadness that Norway is out… I am so enjoying fútbol and all the antics around it but particularly Norway… and the delight that is Erling Haaland. Oh, and all that RO-ing! (FYI, there’s a mitten for all that…) Who knew that in my 65th year I would find such delight in a sport I literally know nothing about!
But Monday has arrived and it brings what feels like the 975th day of heat and humidity, ushering in another week of heat and humidity… and I am so, so over it! My choices… the blast freezer indoors or the steamy hellscape outdoors… yes, it seems like poor choices surround me.
Though, curiously, the mushrooms seem to have adapted to the heat because my yard is overflowing with them… even as the temps soar… I am sure there is a lesson in there for me. Sigh.
I hope that if your Monday includes a lesson that it is a gentle, easy one.

I’m right there with you — I am DONE with this heat. I get all sweaty when I’m outside and then feel like I’m sick as soon as I step inside because I get chills. I don’t want to wish the long days of summer away, but all the same I’d really like some fall weather — warm sun without the heat and humidity! I guess we should at least be thankful that we’re getting sufficient rain this year (likely contributing to your mushroom growth).
I’m definitely not fond of the heat and humidity either. Yesterday was pretty nice here but Saturday? SO humid. Ugh! No shrooms here, but Colin’s yard is filled. with them.
I’ve always hated the heat and humidity and have a hard time understanding why people love summer so much. Not me! I also miss Norway and Haaland. I wonder how our football came to be more popular here than fútbol? It seems more interesting and more of a “real sport” somehow.
I’m going to miss Norway, too. It was so fun to watch online when they were in Boston and then the rest of the time they were playing elsewhere.
We are due the heat and humidity I think Tues/Wednesday. I’m glad I figured out the fans for me as I think I have it working well when needed. There is a portable AC but I only used it for an hour last week or the week before when it was miserable.
The heat seems relentless this year although I think we have had slightly lower temps than the Eastern part of the country. I keep reminding myself that I do enjoy the fresh tomatoes it produces – that is if I can keep up with watering. Our son played soccer from kindergarten through early high school so it’s been interesting to watch a little of the top level play this year. This past week, we watched a couple of games with him which was really fun.
Soccer is great, isn’t it? When Tom was in grad school (in the way, Way, WAY back days), several of his labmates were from soccer-playing countries. They introduced him/us to the World Cup, and we’ve been fans ever since. This year’s World Cup has been especially fun because the games are all in our “time zones” in the US, so it’s been easy to keep up. (That is not usually the case.) Anyway, it’s been such a fun run and I’ll miss it when it’s over!
An odd thing has happened to me in this heat..I have got used to it. Or rather how to be in it. How to keep the house bearable etc. Never thought I would say that. And whilst you miss Norway in the football for us in England it had to be done.
I think I’m the only person in existence who hasn’t watched a single minute of the World Cup. I do love summer because, as I always say, you’ve got to pick one and hate it more and I hate to be cold. I don’t love the extreme humidity, of course, but I do love long days and sultry nights on the deck.
My husband has been watching the games, I have not. I loathe this weather immensely and I stay inside. Sometimes I will sit outside for 5-10 minutes then go right back in. I miss walking outside the most.
