Greetings dear Unravelers and Happy Wednesday to you all!
I am happy to say there has been no unraveling at all this week! But knitting has been slow going because I have been stitching each evening… and not knitting very much. However, it seems a row or two here and there during the day means that I have just 3-ish inches to go on the back and then I will begin the front! And, as you can see above, I am about to join my third ball of yarn as well!
But, I have a completed pair of pants and an almost completed car coat finished! The car coat is a facing and 5 snaps away from being done! Once the snaps are on, I will go back to my regularly scheduled knitting.
The pants… I cannot believe how quickly they came together! In just two nights, I had them finished… really… just two evenings after dinner to sit and stitch a bit. The only fiddly bit was the morning I laid the elastic out and marked the “dots” for Cretin stitching it to the waist of the pants. However, taking that bit of time really helped the sewing. The elastic went on easily and I think it looks nice as well!

Simple Cretin stitch is stretchy and perfect for an elastic waistband!
A picture of me wearing them is coming… stay tuned!
I had one reading finish this week, David Grann’s The Wager. It was a fascinating tale. First, I was fascinated by 1700’s shipping… fascinated. The people who sailed were also fascinating…but when you add in mutiny, lies, shipwreck, deceit, and murder… well, you have a really amazing tale! Grann does a good job of unfurling this story. I really could not stop listening! Grann even went to Wager Island in his research of this story.
As always, if you wrote a post to share please leave your link below and thank you!

A row here and there eventually gets things done. Can’t wait to see your pants/ trousers in a picture. Pants in the UK are under garments or maybe you meant that? the Cretan stitching looks very neat.
I love the closeup of your knitting — really wish I could reach through the screen and squish that yarn! I’m glad to hear that The Wager is good. I was a little disappointed with my last David Grann book, but I think it was just the subject matter that didn’t particularly appeal.
I wondered what you were working on last night and now I know! The vest is really coming along and I’m looking forward to seeing its progression. I’m also looking forward to seeing a modeled shot of your pants; that closeup looks so neat and tidy. And the car coat; you are going to have a terrific fall wardrobe!
Wow Kat! You are crushing it with your stitching. The car coat is gorgeous – I cannot wait to see yours. And I bet those pants are so comfortable. The Cretin stitching is beautiful. And your vest! I enjoyed seeing it during last night’s Zoom meet-up. The pattern is so pretty. The Wager sounds good – maybe it would be a book that Fletch and I could listen to after dinner (once we are finished with our current listen).
A big chef’s kiss for your stitching, Kat! So neat . . . so Alabama Chanin! I can’t wait to see your finished garments. Those pants look like the most comfortable ever! And your knitting looks great, too. XO
I’ve heard great things about those pants (in general). It will be fun to see yours. Your picture of tidy stitches lifted my heart this morning. So satisfying.
So much good stuff here. Your stitching always makes me think “I should do a project like that”. Which I should…when I catch up! I also think 1700s shipping would be facinating, tehre’s a lot of it that went on right here where I live so it feels very tangible.
I have a pair of those pants to sew up… there’s no reason why they aren’t!! Looking forward to modeled shots. 😉
how very delightful you have been bit by the sewing bug, I can’t wait to see them! We had family visiting so I have not been crafting but today they leave and once the house is back into order I will be back to my knitting!
