Greetings dear Unravelers!
It is very bittersweet to close the door on September… I have enjoyed this month tremendously!
I have reached the point of knitting where you knit and knit… and somehow, it is not getting longer! And then suddenly, yesterday afternoon, I measured and lo and behold… an inch to go! It’s still a good bit of knitting yet and then I will wash and gently block it before I pick up the neckband. I also have the back button band to knit. But my progress thus far is delighting me!
I played with another little weaving pattern over the last week as well. I love it and once I got the “over-under” pattern figured out, it was an enjoyable way to spend a few minutes! I like the simplicity of this method of weaving. There is no “angsty” process of dressing a loom… just the fun of the weaving bits! I want to try this pattern on a bit of a larger canvas. What will I do with these little bits and bobs? Probably nothing… but the pure enjoyment of doing something different is a very good thing!
Keeping in that same frame of mind… each morning I am turning my brain to linen stitch and knitting a few rows on the Wakebrite Bandana. While the linen stitch is not an overly complicated, it does require my attention. Not quite meditative, let your mind wander garter stitch… but rather, keep your focus and tune out all the noise knitting. I am in no hurry to get this bandana finished… I am immersing myself fully in the journey… the process… not the finished object.
It has been a wonderful week of reading! I have finished Roopika Risam’s Data Empire. I was fascinated from the start to the finish! Roopika has put together a comprehensive history of how data collection has propelled this world forward. It was a book that crossed my radar thanks to President Obama’s Summer Reading List. It was a great recommendation and got 5-stars from me!
I also picked up Pádraig Ó Tuama’a latest poetry book, Love Between Men and I loved it. The poems are beautiful and thought-provoking. It is the perfect companion to his Kitchen Hymns and I highly recommend both of them!

I’m glad that when you emerged from that black hole of knitting you hadn’t knit too much! Looking forward to seeing it done soon! Love that bit of weaving. I really do like seeing the patterns that are possible with weaving but just don’t have the brain capacity for it at this stage of my life.
Nice progress Kat! Your weaving is so beautiful. The colors remind me of a Native American pattern. I want to look up linen stitch and see how it is done. The start of your Wakebrite is so pretty! I finished “Local Wonders” and will be reading “The Wheeling Year” soon – but I want to pace myself! Hard to do with Kooser’s writing.
What a wonderful bunch of making! Your vest is looking very good and so is your Wakebrite bandanna. (Even the name is cheerful.) The colors you chose for your weaving are lovely and so is that pattern. I was disappointed that my library doesn’t have Data Empire, but I may buy myself a copy soon. And poetry completes what sounds like a very nice week!
beautiful weaving, that is not something I have done yet. I have started hedgehog knitting and so far am enjoying that.
