Is for weekend reminiscing!

If I could order weather… this past weekend would be the weather I would order! Clear skies, warm autumn sunshine, slow sunrises and sunsets, cooling overnights… and no frost to end the mood! If one could “bottle” the days, these are the days I’d save!

Days that were a balm from reality. I just can’t with everything…so I retreated to my kitchen on Saturday and did some baking. Perfect fall days just scream for French Apple Cake and my favorite is David Lebovitz take on Dorie Greenspan’s recipe. It is so, so good!

Cake Perfection… those browned bits are the best parts!

I also finished the body and the button band for my Mercedes Vest. The weather was perfect for knitwear drying so I took full advantage on Sunday. Today begins the neckband pickup and I have prepped myself with the clear and concise instructions from Julie Weisenberger. I feel better about this than any neckband I have ever attempted.

And I finally sat down to stitch on six snaps to my Alabama Chanin jacket!

As you can see… it was a productive weekend.

I hope your weekend was exactly what you needed as well. See you all back here on Wednesday!

I have an overly full week again which makes the weeks just race past.

I was very happy that my return visit to the mammography center last week for a recheck just revealed a benign cyst. Whew! With so many friends having medical problems, it really feels like I have some incredible luck… at least as far as my health goes!

This week, I trek back to the urogynocologist for more Fun Times!

But!! I have a couple of fun things to share with you all that I stumbled across last week.

Thing One:

Did you all know that a Poetry Longlist was recently announced? I had only heard of one book on this list, but I was thrilled that my library had so many of the books listed here. I have never been one to try and read all of the books from the plethora of long lists (or short lists, for that matter!) but I feel compelled to dip into this list of ten poetry books!

Thing Two:

I was not surprised to see Kay post about the recent PBS American Masters offering on Mary Oliver. I watched it eagerly last week and I concur entirely with Kay’s review. If you have not watched it, you should… it is so very good!

There you go… a couple of fun things for your Monday. May your lists all be easy this week! See you all back here on Wednesday!

This morning, sunrise here in the South Hills of Pittsburgh was at 7am… sigh… and the early mornings ambling about with Frankie are mostly quiet. In the evening there is a Cricket Chorus that serenades us, but the mornings are fairly quiet.

My list today includes pulling out some autumn-esque decorations…and hanging the sheets on the line! I am quite happy about the dichotomy of those things!

I hope your list has a variety of things as well! I will see you back here on Wednesday!

Brings the last week of summer vacation… at least in my neighborhood. The kids all start back next week but the teachers around me all were off bright and early this morning.

I know we still have weeks of summer but this morning’s temps most definitely were inching into an autumnal feel… it was just 54°F when I headed out with Frankie in the much dimmer dawn. Yes, I put on a sweater but I should have worn socks as well! When I got back I traded my usual iced coffee for a steaming warm cup and it was exactly what I needed to warm up a bit! I have a couple of  windows open and the AC is OFF!

Today I am taking full advantage of this drying weather and have laundry to get on the line!

I hope in your corner of the world it is as lovely a start! See you all back here on Wednesday with a finished object!!

Brings a new month… August. Oh, August.

Yesterday, Sylvia Plath was on my mind with her quote:

August rain: the best of the summer gone, and the new fall not yet born. The odd uneven time.

Saturday it “felt and smelled like rain” any minute for most of the day… but that rain held off until late at night. Sunday was a very grey and rainy day. Thunder rumbling and rain spattering against the windows. Quite a delightful day with all that August rain. Oh, and I do love how Sylvia (like me) has her eye on fall.

I am almost done with my second time through Whistler and I love it even more this time. AND! Up next will be my second reading/listening (I will pair them together this time) of John of John.

Dear Friends… I don’t believe there is a better way to spend the odd uneven time of August than lingering with books I have read and loved deeply. I believe that I will spend the rest of the month revisiting some dear friends. August is a very good month to be a bit nostalgic… don’t you think?

I will see you all back here on Wednesday. Happy Monday everyone!
