It’s Thursday and I have three things to share so I am joining with Carole and friends again today!
This morning a curious quiet greeted me when I took Sherman out – no bird song, no frenzied hum of cicadas – just silence. It seemed that nature was reminding me that summer is fleeting, and I should spend more time enjoying it than I do complaining about it!
I am going to try and heed that advice, especially with warmer temps returning today.
Thing One:
This Willow Variation crossed my feed reader yesterday and I see a lovely flannel version in my mind – paired with a black long-sleeved shirt and leggings. Yes, fall is creeping into my mind – if ever so slightly!
Thing Two:
Last month I injured my ankle but after a couple of days, though it was still a little painful, I could walk and so I ignored it and carried on. And then July came and my focus to walk every single day happened, and by the 15th the pain was, well, much more painful. It was now constant pain, pain that interrupted me, and, yes – pain that stopped me from walking or doing Pilates. Enter, Tibialis Posterior Tendinopathy. 10 days of Motrin and immobilization have helped considerably. Yesterday was day one of doing some very careful movements to stretch and build up the muscles and tendon and know what? I feel like I could walk today – but I won’t! I am going to get back on my Pilates mat today though and incorporate some more of the stretching and mobility exercises! Moral of the story… self-care is important and when your body is telling you something, don’t ignore it!
Thing Three:
So that yarn… I swatched, and swatched, and swatched – and no matter what needle I use, I CAN.NOT.GET.GAUGE!!! In fact, I could not even get close to gauge! And, then I took a breath and pulled out some leftover Joyful and swatched…perhaps the key is in the name, because I too was JOYFUL. I got gauge!! I have 1280+ yds and now that brown yarn is back in a pile by my desk. However, one of the swatches matches gauge to Andrea Mowry’s The Weekender and Isabell Kraemer’s Daelyn Pullover. So, my question for you… which would you choose and why?
Happy Thursday, everyone!
Oh, so sorry to hear about your ankle. Be CAREFUL getting back into Pilates (or anything!).
I like the idea of a flannel Willow – that would be great with leggings. And I really like both Daelyn and Weekender…but the shoulder detail in Weekender is so cool…I’d go with that.
SO SORRY to hear about your injury! Rehabbing anything is always tough–the self-discipline it requires when you get that hint of, “I think I can do XYZ now…” (but you really shouldn’t). Sounds like you know what you’re doing here…
So I vote for the Daelyn. And I’d have to say the reason is that it just feels a *little* more feminine than the Weekender. Can’t wait to hear what you pick!!
Another ankle warning – take care! I hurt mine in college (trying to impress some guy with my tennis serve; it didn’t work) and I still have issues with it. I like the detail that separates the garter stitch back from the stockinette front of Daelynn, but I never knit sweaters, so take my vote with a rain of salt!
That would actually be *grain*!
Sorry about your ankle. Hope the healing continues to go well.
I have eyed that Weekender sweater many times. Take care
I hope your injury will get better soon! I am guilty of ignoring things like that too, but it never works out that well.
I love that dress. Looks so comfy.
And I’d choose the Weekender pattern. Just a bit more detail for a brown sweater. I’d knit the Daelyn in a brighter color or a variegated yarn.
Ouch! I have been there with an ankle injury, and anything that reduces your mobility that much is no fun. I am glad to hear that you are taking it slowly and listening carefully to your body!
Of the two sweaters, I like Daelyn better. I think the neckline of the Weekender looks like it would pull out of shape too easily.
Keep taking care of yourself! I like both sweaters, but am especially drawn to the shoulders on the Weekender!
Self-care is a good reminder to us all. Hope your ankle heals soon!
I like both sweaters – and actually have The Weekender on my needles. But after seeing Daelyn I am liking that better. I am not sure I like the reverse stockinette that becomes the “right side” of the Weekender. The stitches look wonky but I am hoping blocking helps that
I love thing one! It reminds me of dresses I used to wear in college. Thing 2: I’m sorry you hurt your ankle and agree 1000% that we have to listen to our bodies. Thing 3: The Weekender for sure. Now I want to knit it, too!
Oh man, a sore ankle during the summer is a bummer. Self-care is important and as my Mom, the R.N., often reminded me, pain is the body’s signal that something is amiss. I love the idea of a flannel tunic over black leggings. As for the sweater, I have been considering the Daelyn as a comfortable raglan with a little twist (the back in garter stitch.) The Weekender looks a little boxy to me but we all like different styles.
I love the Daeyn cause it “looks” so easy to knit and in the same vein so easy to wear which means lots of use.
1 – That Willow variation looks GREAT, doesn’t it?
2 – I had tendintis in my ankle a few years ago. It took a long time — lots of rest and PT — but it finally healed. It put an end to my running, though. You are so wise to rest and be patient. (Pool walking and swimming helped me get exercise while not causing further damage. Do you happen to have a pool nearby?)
3 – Daelyn. I like the Weekender a lot, too . . . but I always worry about the neckline stretching out.
Both sweaters are beautiful and in my Ravelry library. You can’t go wrong with either one. Take good care of that ankle.
Hoping and praying that your ankle gets better soon. I’ve had ankle issues since the beach and I see my RA doc tomorrow, let’s see if she has any insight or tricks up her sleeve.
Sorry about your ankle…take it slow and let it heal! Yeah! I know…
