In Celebration of Recycling

I read this meme on Janey’s Blog and as there has been little content here recently I thought I’d “recycle” this here, and while I know it is not Monday the encouragement to recycle is a good reminder any day!

I celebrate myself, and sing myself,

And what I assume you shall assume,

For every atom belonging to me as good belongs to you.

~Walt Whitman

Do you recycle?
Religiously and have for years. I am fortunate to live in a place that offers curbside recycling. The small price I pay monthly for the privilege to do so is, I believe, part of my responsibility in being a good steward of this planet I live on.

Mother's Day Monday

Mother's Day Monday

After a week of Tulip Time Hell, having the breakfast with the Sunshine’s of my life on Sunday was the most amazing ending to one very long week.

I leave you with a bit of the sunshine they left in my life for the week.

Thank you Heidi and Sam, I love you both so much!

Tulip Festival is looming here in Holland, Michigan. However, the tulips are waning….these beauties will be done soon.

Hope spring is equally as beautiful in your neck of the woods.

Nothing ventured, nothing gained.

First, there was a bit of dyeing.

Then there was a little re-skeining.

Finally yesterday, with the help of my incredibly talented friend, AsKatKnits Studios was born!

Today AsKatKnits Studios is open for business.

Please feel free to go look around a bit. I will be adding more yarns and fibers in the upcoming days.

I would like to thank StevoFC for all his help yesterday! Your attention to detail, your drive for perfection, and your willingness to drop everything to help a friend is humbling.

Gentle Readers, if ever you need any web design work, I would highly recommend him!

Thanks, Steve!

Fraud and deception and lies! Oh, my!

Honesty is such a lonely word.
Everyone is so untrue.
Honesty is hardly ever heard.
And mostly what I need from you. – Billy Joel

Last week was ripe with scandal in both the banking industry and on Wall Street, first came the announcement that failed Washington Mutual (WAMU) seemingly perfected the art of Fraudulent Lending and close on its heels was the S.E.C. suing Goldman Sachs due to their Mortgage Backed Securities of Doom.

I believe that this is but the tip of the iceberg and that we will see many other firms joining WAMU and Goldman in this ongoing debacle.

Honesty, apparently, is obsolete in today’s world.

Who knew?

Springtime in Holland

Springtime in Holland

It seems spring had definitely sprung here in my little corner of the world. This is the Crab Apple tree in my front yard, here in bloom for a fleeting moment, so I captured it in all its glory for posterity.

The Bodacious Thought Process

In the continuing bodacious thought process, this quote appeared on a friends Facebook wall and I loved it. Ms. Angelou’s statement spoke volumes to me with her brilliant wisdom in this statement:

“Each of us has that right, that possibility, to invent ourselves daily. If a person does not invent herself, she will be invented. So, to be bodacious enough to invent ourselves is wise” – Maya Angelou.

Janey – Director of all that is Bodacious has posed another question to her Bodacious-wanna-be’s and she wants to know this:

“What place feeds your soul? Where do you feel most at home? Most creative? Most peaceful? Most like your authentic self? Any and all of the above…”

My question is this: is this a place or a thought process. Do I in fact need to be some place special to feed my soul or feel more at home? Am I more creative one place and lacking creativity in another? Do I find peace within myself or is peace something that comes from an outside force? Am I only authentic in certain spaces or times?

My answer is a simple yet resounding no.

I believe this has more to do with my thought process and nothing at all to do with a physical location. For indeed, if one only feels authentic when they are somewhere they are not – are they truly authentic?

I am most at home within myself – no matter where I might physically be.

This is not a process that is stagnant either, because I try to daily work on ‘feeding my soul’ in a number of ways. I look for things that will expand my knowledge, inspire me, or challenge me.

It seems that far too many people spend far too much time wishing their lives away. They spend all their time wishing they were something they are not, or longing to be in a different location. Perhaps if the spent a fraction of that time doing something about it they might discover just what they are searching for inside themselves!

My question to you is this; are you trying to invent yourself daily, as Maya Angelou suggests, or are you spinning your wheels wishing your life away?

The bodacious possibilities are truly endless.

Oh Happy Day!

Oh Happy Day!

From my house to yours, may you all have a Blessed Easter.

And, to my friend, Steve, here is hoping you have a very Happy Birthday!

This was tonight’s sunset…no fooling. Untouched. Just magnificent and glorious.

We broke all kinds of records today… 82 degrees on April 1st was one of them.

Some interesting things coming here at Casa del Kat Knits… stay tuned.

Health Care for all, but not all for Health Care

Health Care for all, but not all for Health Care

healthbill

We have seen an historic event happen this week, the victory for all of us with the passing of the Health Care Reform over the weekend.

However, apparently this was not something that some of the citizens of this land were excited about.

In fact, they were so not happy about it that they have determined that they have the right to threaten those that voted for it…not only threaten, there have evidently been acts of violence against some!

Really people, can you not be more constructive that that?

Who knew that writing a letter intelligently expressing ones disagreement and dissatisfaction was passé?
