Or – Trying to Cook All the Things
I have been trying to take advantage of the bounty of the season of both my garden and the local farmers markets.
I am certainly not short of great ingredients! The trick is to become creative in your use of the season’s bounty, because the same thing day in and day out can get boring no matter how good it is!
I have canned tomato sauce as well as a zippy little version of Rotel-Style tomatoes that will serve us well over the winter months. I have frozen fresh sweet corn that I cut from the cob, and I will be blanching green and yellow beans to freeze as well. I have pickled radishes and cucumbers. I roasted and froze some amazing poblanos and some great jalepenos too!

Until a couple of weeks ago, I had never tried rhubarb.
I know what insanity is that?!
However, I saw this and did some googling and then found this and decided I needed to put my big girl panties on, buy some rhubarb, and try it.
Oh. My. Heavens. It was quite simply; freaking incredible.

Some years ago, I bought two pointy sticks, some fake yarn, and a ‘how to’ book and I taught myself to knit. It was a painful process to start out – everything just felt so awkward in my hands, as it is with any new thing we try. However, I persevered and stayed the course. I found a nice knitting shop where I took a class or two, and forged ahead. I do not remember at what point holding the needles in my hands no longer felt cumbersome and instead felt like a comfortable old friend – but that moment happened.
And, garments were made. Some good and some not so good, but I learned along the way.

Some months ago, I attended Pittsburgh Knit and Crochet. It was my first time attending this event and, for the most part, did not find the event worth the price of admission. I did find a couple of amazing vendors – one of which I will be reviewing here today.
I first learned of The Ross Farm when I stopped in a LYS who told me they carried local yarn from Eighty-Four, PA. The LYS did not have a large selection of their yarn and no fiber at all, but I tucked the information about the farm away in my brain and imagine my profound joy when I discovered them live at PGH Knit and Crochet! Their booth drew me in immediately with their stunning version of TTL’s Germinate. Next, my eyes went to some very lovely bags filled with processed fiber. I selected one of each – okay, maybe more than one of each, but one can never have enough good fiber!
