Monday Randomness

Monday Randomness

I spent the weekend contemplating how best to photograph my Lunar Phases shawl. I am not sure I got it right…it is HUGE and not at all easy to photograph! And, I did not block it aggressively at all. I just gently blocked each of the phases to their original dimensions and then gently stretched out clue four that joined the clues together. For all its size, it is not at all heavy but rather it is incredibly light – it is easily a wrap for cool summer nights!

This morning the 2018 Women’s Prize shortlist was announced and I am trying to comprehend how The Idiot and Sing, Unburied, Sing can even be on the same list, much less a shortlist!

Knitting ennui continues, but I think I might be turning the corner. I pulled out some insanely deep stash late last week and did some swatching with a modicum of success! I started a new sweater on Friday and I also have made some progress on knitting mates for single socks! I also found some yarn that will work beautifully for a new Vodka Lemonade (this one, sadly, no longer fits.)

And, because Laundry is Life… the mountain awaits me! I hope your Monday is painless and over quickly!

You guys!!! My Lunar Phases is finished!! I just love how this all came together and for once I am entirely enthralled with my color choices! Kudos to Larissa Brown for her knitting ingenuity! This was a true mystery up to the last clue. I had no idea how it would all come together, but I have to tell you – it is stunning, as you can see from these “teaser” photos. Hopefully, the weather will cooperate for a big reveal next week!

If you have not knit this yet, I would encourage you to cast on! Until clue 4 this is very portable, and it is a very rhythmic knit at least by clue – each clue does change a bit in their patterning.

All in all, this was a huge success and I look forward to wearing it!

Now for some links!

First up, today is the last day for the early sign up (with a $50 discount!) for Knit Stars 3.0, which has an amazing line up of teachers! I am still pondering this – have any of you taken any previous Knit Stars? If so, what are your thoughts?

And, the lure of the Gansey grows

Bloom Sweater… I especially love the version knit with Linen Quill!

Cloudless

Tabouli

I love the sleeve detail in Bright Sweater

And, finally Anything Goes

That is all I have for this week! Have a wonderful weekend and I will see you back here on Monday!

There you have it… my Ironic Three on Thursday!

Carole (and Dale) are on a brief hiatus this week doing all manner of fun things. The regularly scheduled Three on Thursday returns next week!

Unraveled Wednesday | 4.18.18

Unraveled Wednesday | 4.18.18

No unraveling here this week, just long rows of knitting as I have joined all the sections of my Lunar Phases together. These rows require counting and keeping track of where you are, but it is rhythmic and fun knitting as I see it growing, albeit slowly!

I am a little antsy about what project to start next and not at all sure what I want to do. I want to knit a cardigan from Uniform, but I am uncertain what style to knit, or what material to knit with. However, I have some lingering projects that I should be disciplined and finish. Or perhaps, I should do a bit of sewing or at the very least, I should make the muslin to determine the alterations necessary on a sleeveless Uniform Top. It seems I am as unsettled as the weather has been!

Fortunately, the reading has been not unsettled at all, although not all the reading has been great!

I devoured Jason Matthews Red Sparrow. It was fantastic! I loved the story and the recipes. And, I am eagerly awaiting the second book of the trilogy. This is a 5-star book and I highly recommend!

Thanks to long hours of yard work over the weekend, I also finished listening to The Idiot. I am not sure what was the greater punishment – the yard work or the book. I am surprised, as The Idiot made the long list for the Women’s Prize for Fiction. I was not impressed at all and gave it 2-stars. I do not recommend it at all.

I “cleansed my palate” with the quick listen of Steinbeck’s Of Mice and Men – read by Gary Sinise. Short, sweet, and, more importantly, it reminded me how much I love Steinbeck.

I just started listening to Flat Broke with Two Goats, which is The Big Library Read choice for spring. It is not at all what I expected, but I am enjoying it tremendously.

What are you making or reading (or both!) this week? If you wrote a post today, please leave the link to the post in your comment! And, thank you!

If it’s Tuesday…

If it’s Tuesday…

I can guarantee it is snowing. These fragile blossoms that bobbed gently in the winds, today bravely hold snow. Winter and Spring continue to battle, and Spring’s weekend victory has been usurped by a wintry blast.

But, perhaps the best balm is a bit of poetry:

Spring Snow

By Richard Greene

Wet snow coats
twig, branch and bud.
Against the still black street
the waning season
limns its last words
in bold calligraphy.

Today I am profoundly thankful for hot coffee, wooly sweaters, and no pressing need to leave the house.

Monday is for…

Monday is for…

Resting!

It was a weekend full of lots of work; trimming, raking, and bagging umpteen bags of yard debris is hard work! By Sunday night, my body was complaining loudly but, we are ready for spring (even though winter is not entirely done yet…)

Today I am going to spend some time catching my breath and maybe getting started with clue 4 done on my Lunar Phases MKAL! This is the final clue so I now have a vague idea of how this will all come together and can I just say that Larissa Brown is a mad genius!!

And!! There could even be a load or two of laundry in process whilst knitting today. I can be talented like that! Hahaha!

I hope your Monday is full of the things you need.
