Unexpected Goodness

Unexpected Goodness

This Monday morning brings the close of July is the most unexpected but beautiful way.

It was a great weekend! Friday night cocktails were accompanied by some light snacks as we wound down the week.

Saturday saw me heading out with some “yarn” friends to visit a few shops on the Pittsburgh Yarn Crawl and the weather was just perfect – not too hot at all as we enjoyed the day.

Sunday, the day started out beautifully cool but it warmed nicely and the in afternoon we spent time in the yard doing a bit of work, which feels like it is never-ending.

However, this “overnight” visitor was a most welcome sight first thing this morning!

I hope your Monday is filled with unexpected goodness, too!

Sometimes the weekends seem slow and lazy and other times it just seems to race by. This weekend was the later and I am scratching my head wondering how the heck it is Monday already.

It was a weekend spent trying to stay cool and dry (and there was lots of rain!) But, the weekend also brought the first tomatoes of the season and there was some swatching, too!

But, my list calls so have a good Monday – stay cool and dry!

Unrelated but relevant

Unrelated but relevant

Oh, Tuesday – I have nothing today so I am hoping that if I just start writing inspiration will hit.

This weather has been exactly what my annuals like – they are growing like mad and are all showy and beautiful.

The perennials are at the “in between” stage and I am looking for things that will bloom later in the summer to add in next year. Although, the Foxglove looks a bit bedraggled, it is still blooming.

Our Butterfly Bush is spectacular this year and it is taller than our pergola!

Audiobooks have been the best thing this summer. I have listened to so many great books by great narrators. Currently, I am listening to The Help and I am enjoying it – although, perhaps enjoying is not the best way to describe a painful novel however, the narration is superb.

Steve bottled his third batch of beer yesterday and on a related note, since the beer brewing began weight loss has been in a holding pattern. Steve says this is unrelated, but I think it is very relevant!

That is all I have for this Tuesday – I am going to try making these this morning. I will let you know how they turn out!

Monday Blues

Monday Blues

Weekend Monday’s are much better than Begin Your Week Monday’s!

This weekend did have some highs though.

  • My Knit a Sweater in 4 days took 5 days. I am in total awe of all those who completed this sweater in 4 days – and there were several who did. However, I am thrilled to have a sweater in the complete column! And, even in 5 days – I am super happy with it. I made some mods which you can read about here. It just needs a soak and some ends woven in and it will be ready for sweater weather. Now, back to Stillwater #1 and catching up on KK’s MKAL.
  • I binge-watched Witnesses on Netflix. Excellent and I highly recommend!
  • I am almost done with South of Broad! Which is a good thing, because I have gotten a flurry of holds that have come available – so my reading/listening list just grew exponentially!
  • We did a good bit of yard/garden work on Sunday. More trimming and more planting! Also, some creative adjustments to the “garden gate” because the wee bunnies can eat their weight x100 in beans! I had 10 bean plants, now I have 10 bean sticks! Sigh…
  • I discovered that Broadchurch is on BBC America on Wednesday nights! Also, Prime Suspect: Tennison on PBS was excellent!

There you have my weekend but, Monday has a long list and I better get to it! How was your weekend?

More Important Than Ever

More Important Than Ever

Today is all about traditions. And, this year those traditions seem more important than ever.

It can’t be the Independence Day without listening to Morning Edition’s reading of the Declaration of Independence.

Ever wonder about the science behind those beautiful fireworks we all love? Wonder no more!

And, finally, this poll on civility is so sad, perhaps today we could all practice simply being kind to one another.

Have a very Happy 4th everyone!
